Well, as organiser of Organ Alley, I thought I'd better try this posting business out !
For the Wednesday night in the Dance Tent, we will be having a Hand Turned evening again, so if you are coming to the GDSF, PLEASE let me know in good time if you would like to bring your instrument up for a turning session .
Free tea, coffee and biscuits will, as usual, be provided for all.
Let's see if we can make a record number, eh?

Alan Roberts, (The-Buck-Stops-Here) Organiser.

Alan
As a newcomer to the hand turned fraternity I have been unsure about how to apply to get to Dorset, also having heard that many who have been going to Dorset for years they have been turned down this year.

Could you explain the application procedure and also the policy as to how exhibitors are selected what criteria is used?

Arthur

Hi Arthur.
There was a time when a simple phone call or letter to "Dairy Meade Farm" was all that was required to be invited to the GDSF.
But in the last couple of years the Exhibits seem to have been reduced by the organizers - especially the Organs.
The proceedure as far as I understand it is to apply early in the year and hope to get lucky.
This year it seems to have become more difficult to obtain an invite. I myself was turned down & told to apply next year & I have knowledge of the same happening to several other regular attenders.

George

Arthur: I have to go along with what George says; when Mike oliver held the reins, you would usually approach him and get the reply "bring it on down, and we'll find somehwere for you to play".
I guess that as the show has become much more commercial that the organising committee have to watch very carefully where the money goes, and I would hazard a gues that steam engines and the vintage fairground take a huge amount of cash to get in. On the flip-side, and by comparison, organs tend to be somewhat more in 'the background' so to speak, and therefore are a lesser priority.
There, now that's set the cat amongst the pigeons, eh?
Anyhow, the call remains for all those hand tunred (and largere) organs to come to the marquee in OA on the Weds night....don't forget there's free tea, coffee and biscuits going.......
Alan Pell ahs asked me how I feel about fish net stockings and Lil Marlean (?) I have a very uneasy feeling that I'm gonna get stitched up (if you'll pardon the pun ) on the party night which is Thursday.
LATEST: At the bring and buy sale of organ related bits and pieces on the saturday morning, I am told there will be no less than three (3) organs up for sale froman English source. Watch this space for more details.
