|

Hi folks.
Welcome to the new photo gallery for Fairground and Steam pictures.
I will be updating the Forum Help file to explain the use of the 'Upload Picture' facility, but I am sure that you will have figured it out by then!
You should see a new button on the posting form called 'Upload Picture'.
This launches the Uploader in a new window.
The uploader takes a picture file from your PC and resizes it, if required. It then saves it in a folder on the Organ Alley web site and inserts it (via a [IMG] BBCode) into your post.
Note that pictures are restricted in size to 450 by 450 pixels. This is for three reasons:
1. To limit the amount of space used on the web server.
2. To ensure that upload and download times are as short as possible.
3. To prevent the frames of the forum window from 'breaking'!
DO NOT attempt to upload a huge 1 megabyte image, as the image resizing program will not handle it and you will be left with a blank Imaging window! I have not determined what the maximum upload size is as yet.
Please ensure that there are no copyright issues with your picture postings!
Have fun,
Dave

Has anyone got a picture of the Steam Motorcycle that used to attend the old Bishops Castle Rally?

Hi Folks!
Someone attempted to upload these pictures.
Unfortunately, the Picture Uploader does not like huge images (these were nearly 1 MB each!) and you will have ended up with a blank window. However, the picture will still have been uploaded, but not reduced in size.
I have retrieved the pics from the upload directory and reduced them, so if the owner would like to add their comments, I would appreciate it.
Best Regards,

|
|
I have determined that the maximum size image you can upload is 1024*768 at about 200KBytes. These figures are not 'set in stone', but you should be OK if you do not exceed them.
Anything larger will not work - You will be left with a blank Picture Uploader window!
I am not sure whether it is the file size, or the image size that is the problem...If (when) I figure it out, I will let you know! I understand that it is a problem with the web server timing out when a program takes too long to run.
This means that if your photos are larger than 1024*768, you MUST reduce their size by loading them into a photo editor. In Photoshop, this is done from the 'Image' menu followed by 'Image Size...' and then entering the size you require. If you have to reduce your images, then you may as well set them to 640*480, just in case I can increase the viewable size of the images later.
For now though, the Picture Uploader will resize (and save) all images to a maximum size of 450*450.
How do I determine the size of the picture?
If you are using Windows XP, hovering your mouse over the picture file in a file browser will display a small info panel with the image dimensions and the file size.
For Windows 98, you will have to right-click on the picture file and select properties. This will allow you to view the file size, but not the image dimensions.
Another important snippet
You must ensure that the picture uploader window has closed before you try to upload again, as the Uploader will not open twice and you will be clicking 'Upload Picture' for evermore, with no results!

I am forwarding an email sent by Organ Alley member Jim Simpson, from Bolton (Dave Stubbs).

Hi George,
These photo's were taken at Driffield rally 2002.
Is it the same bike you were asking about on the forum?
Regards,
Jim Simpson

Thanks for the pictures Jim.
It could well be the same Bike , there can't be many steam driven bikes about.
Quite a rarity which I would dearly like to own.
Regards
George. |

This bike was seen at G.D.S.F. 2004. I have no details at all except that it was homemade.

Jim Simpson.

This is my first try, I hope it works. (Apoliges in advance if it doesn't) |
