Hey Everyone,
I have just come back after spending all week away at Graham Atkinsons preparing the organs for a wedding, so this has been my first chance to state how good Widnes was this year.
The show has got to be said is faultless. 95% of the the organs sounded well and ALL the large organs sounded bang on. The weather was great (except for that freaky bit on sunday morning) and the people flocked to the park, I think its well established now. George goes out giving leaflets the saturday before and I normally go with him, but this year I was at Bedford. I don't think many was given out, but it didn't matter because the numbers were definetly up and they keep going up!
It was nice to spend time with Eddy Nickson and show him the ropes, as hopefully he will crew for us next year and it was nice to have the official concert on another Marenghi this year. The Irvin Marenghi played for an hour and included popular fairground tunes and to finish with La Traviata and God Save the Queen. Then off to the beer tent PERFEC T!!!! |

Hi Allan and Eddy.
I took the liberty of moving your posts from the Photo Gallery of Victoria Park to here, as the pictures will take some time to download if anyone is on a dial-up connection, so it may have made reading your posts rather difficult.
I was hoping that I could merge yours with the thread started by Peter Clarke, but I haven't found a way, as yet!
Anyway, thanks for your comments about the Widnes Rally, maybe we will receive some more from other exhibitors/visitors.
Best regards,
Dave |

Hi Eddy & Alan.
Nice to know you enjoyed Widnes despite the 30 minute downpour on Sunday morning, which could have meant disaster if it had arrived a couple of hours later.( Remember to bring your Wellies next year )
As it turned out it did not affect us at all,the sun came out and so did the public to beat last years attendance by a few thousand.
I forgive you Alan for not helping with the Flyers. We used to have 3 organs and 9 helpers around the Town on the Saturday previous to the Rally, it has now dwindled to Dave and myself doing the job with help from Malcolm Taylor for a couple of hours,
I must get it organized better for next year.
All my worries about where to put everybody because of the alterations in the park were resolved by moving the cars and the Craft/Model tent to the area next to the tennis courts thereby giving me more space on the main field for the Organs and other exhibits.
Unfortunately I was unable to take my Pell or the Orchestrion because I did not have the time to operate them. My task was trying to ensure everyone else had a troublefree and happy weekend.
Thanks Alan for arranging the Saturday evening Organ recital.
Alan Couldwell had to pull out at the last minute on Friday due to work commitments. but all the other promised Organs came and a few more that were not listed,so a very big thank you to everyone for supporting the event.
Regards
George. _________________ Dont despair. (Moses was once a basket case) |
