Folowing the success of my new website:

www.lotjc.webs.com

I thought I would build another Fair organ related website with the help of my website advisor Jenny.

The NEW site is linked to my main website but the link is:

www.chairmangallerytwo.webs.com

where you will find a huge page related to Fairground organs with images from the OLD website which was set up nearly two years ago!

Enjoy and please give your views!!!

Hi Jenny (Robert?).

I put a redirect page on to inform anyone that the Organ Alley website will be removed in May.

There is a hit counter on the page and it is increasing, so I know that people are still looking at the forum, but getting feedback seems like hard work these days!

I have had a look on your site and there are some great pictures.

You need to update one section though. You still have the owner of Stuart's 'Miricki Dean' as the scrap man from Stockport. It is of course now owned by George and stored in my back garden!

I have been doing quite a lot of work on the organ, mostly electrical, so you wouldn't see any difference at the front of the organ.

Didn't see you at Herbert Silcocks on Saturday for the FOPS AGM, so I assume that you couldn't make it?

I haven't decided whether I am going to post any photos of the AGM on the forum.

Stuart's 'Miricki Dean', at home!

Panoramic view of Herbert Silcocks collection (Use the scrollbar to scroll across).

Best regards,

Dave

Hello Dave

Jenny is the lady who looks after my website, she also looks for ways to publicise the sites she looks after for her clients such as mine!

She has sent lots of emails out to organ enthusiasts publicising the site and she tells me she has had lots of good and positive feed back!

I was in London on the Saturday as I went to see the new Maria " Summer Strallen" in " The Sound of Music" at Londons West end theatre " The London palladium" which was a breathtaking and utterly wonderfull show.

But I did get to Silcocks yesterday which was my third visit to his wonderfull collection!

Jenny has put all my pictures from yesterday on here:

http://fairorgangallery.webs.com/galleryfive.htm

I will ask Jenny to update the section about Stuarts organ, thankyou for telling me.

I am really looking forward to May Day Steam this year, its only FIVE weeks untill its here which will hopefully go quick!

Is Stuarts organ going to May Day please Dave?

I spoke to the people who organise it and thankfully my favourite " The Whites Gavioli" is attending which is great news, Ive really missed it over the winter!

Norman told me he has been doing some work on the picolo pipes in the centre of the organ and some dummy pipes are or have been made to go with the violins.

I love the torch holders on that organ, there is now a small section about these figures on my other site here:

http://whitesgavioliorgan.webs.com/britaniaandliberty.htm

Let me know what you think!

Hope you are well!

Robert

Hi Robert.

Yes, I can confirm that I will be attending Mayday Steam with Stuart's (George's) organ.

I am presently in the process of rewiring the 'flashing fairground lights' to a low power LED system that I have designed. I have not been able to run the old lighting system from my small generator before, as they use too much power (almost 1000 watts when they are all on!). I am hoping that the new system will use less than 100 watts.

Those website links you gave don't go anywhere, it says "Oops, we can't find that page!".

Some organ modification pictures:

New mains switching panel in the organ.

All modifications ably assisted by the cats, of course!

In the process of dismantling the lighting system for rewiring.

More cat supervision!

Regards, Dave

Hi Robert.
Many thanks to you and your Mum for the kind thoughts and get well card. I should be seeing the Surgeon next Thursday to have a chat about proceedures and if all goes well I will be Hospitalised for a short time while they put things right. With luck I could be out and about again for May Day Steam.

Hi Dave.
Yes--- Please put some pics of the FOPS AGM on the Forum. We still get people viewing the Forum but they are very shy at posting comments.
A lot could not make the Meeting but they will be still interested to see the pics.

Thanks
George

By the way Dave I am looking forward to seeing the Lighting mods on the Organ.
Using that type of Flashing Coloured LEDs should save quite a bit in fuel costs and will enable a smaller gererator to be used without diminishing any of the lighting effects.
I should think other operators will be interested in the mod.with the cost of fuel rising almost daily.

Regards
George.

Hi George.

Thanks for that...I will have a look through the AGM pictures and post a selection as soon as I can.

Another 'smaller generator' modification was the Soft Starter module I connected to the blower, which reduces the start-up power by about a half until the centrifugal switch kicks in.

Hello Dave and George

Well done George, I heard you are now Vice President of the Main FOPS Soicety!

I hope you get better soon and hopefully get to see you at May Day steam in five weeks.

Stuarts organ looks great, its a YEAR since I last saw it and ive really missed it so I can't wait to see it again.

I like the clip of the organ on your website but I noticed that one of the female bellringers was not working?

Has the tube behind her got a puncture would you say or has this been fixed?

I could have a look at May Day I suppose!

I got hold of my website builder Jenny and asked her to destroy the websites as they were to much hassle and to much bandwidth was being used up.

Its confused a lot of people I think but I have no desire to build another website for some time.

Hope you are both well, let me know how you get on George!

Thankyou for the pictures Dave, is that your cat?

Hi Robert.

Yes, there are two of my cats in the pictures (both supervising the modifications)!

Well, that was observant of you regarding the bellringer in the video.

Fortunately, it is not a puncture, but the internal link from her arm to the airmotor needs glueing and I keep forgetting to fix it, so thanks for the reminder. I usually do a temporary fix when I take the organ out!

I hadn't spotted it wasn't working until after I shot the video footage!

On your website, you mention something about the early days of the organ. I would be interested in any information you have, as I don't have anything about the origin of the organ.

Hi Robert.
Thanks for the kind wishes.and for the card
I have now got a date 7th May when I go into hospital for the By-pass operation, so of course I am hoping all goes well.
With luck I should be at May Day Steam with Dave who is taking the organ so will look forward to seeing you there.
There does not seem to be a lot of info of Stuarts Dean organ before it came into Stuarts ownership and it would be interesting to both Dave and myself if anyone can remember its previos owners.
Dave has done quite a lot of work sorting out the electrical circuitry with new control panel and wiring and of course the new Flashing Light system and slow start module that he has devised which will enable him to use a suitcase generator and consequently a large reduction in fuel consumption.
I think it is called reducing his Carbon Footprint , he takes about size 11 shoes Laughing

Dear George

I have seeked information from Richard Dean who has given me this information:

It was built new for a Mr Webster and it was the 30th organ of that 30 keyless model built and it was built new in 1982.

In 1987 Stuart found the organ rotting away in someone's garden, at the back of a field, so he asked if he could take it for restoration. When he got it home he left it in his garage to dry and he then got to work on moulding some new carved work, decorating the façade and figures. As far as I know, he made some new pipe work to go with the pipes that he had managed to restore. The instrument was then housed in a display trailer and was travelled by Stuart with his Can Can stall and roundabout. As the years went on, Stuart kept changing, redecorating and adding bits to his organ. He made 2 drummer figures to go with the 2 bell ringers and the bandmaster. The drummers he made out of papier-mache, 2 wood blocks, chicken wire, clay and an old dolls face (from which he made a rubber mould) and they took him about a year to make. He then made a top piece for the organ and he commissioned some brass twirling poles to go ether side of the figures. More recently he named the figures after the Dutch Royal family. He also decided to give the organ a louder volume so he fixed a CD player with two large speakers to go at the back of the organ so it would play music in time to the organ.

The organ was originally a book playing organ but Stuart wanted to have a rest from the Keyframe so he fixed the organ with a Midi System and all the 31 keyless books were sold. We unfortunately don't know when the organ was built, as it has many old and new parts in it. I have always admired the figures on the organ which are made of fibre glass apart from the drummers which Stuart made. The three centre figures are replicas of those on a 31 keyless Dean called “Red Dragon” which I would love to see. I have tried to get copies of these figures from Deans before but unfortunately they are no longer available. One of my fondest memories of the organ was when I was allowed to wash down the figures and fix the bells they hold, at May Day, as they were grimy with steam from the engines.

When Stuart died they played the organ at his funeral in the street .As Stuart had requested, the organ played Blaze Away as the hearse came up to the church steps.

..................................................................................................

The above information is from Richard Dean and the rest is information I got from Staurt when he was alive...

Hope the information is of interest to you?

Are you going to display this infront of the organ? It would be good I think!

Hi Robert.

Thanks for all the information.

I will place a laminated copy on the front of the organ.
