Hi Guys.

You are right -we do need some more members!

The problem with finding the Forum by chance is that I haven't submitted the Organ Alley website to any of the search engines, as yet. Although search engines will usually find a new website whether it is submitted or not.

However, regarding Forum members, I was rather hoping that 'word-of-mouth' would prevail, as the Organ enthusiast community is fairly 'close-knit'. The website and Forum were plugged in the NW Group July Newsletter, although whether anyone noticed it, I couldn't say.

The main problem is that if you do your sums to find how many potential members there are 'out there', you have to ask the following questions:

1. How many organ enthusiasts are 'out there'?
2. How many of those have a computer?
3. How many of those are on the Internet?
4. How many of those are likely to want to join a Forum?
5. How many of those are already using another Forum?

So how many does this leave? The answer is likely to be "Not Many"!

I can only assume that the lack of activity with the existing members is because people are busy with other things, EG rallies, at this time of the year.

We can only hope that we will gain some more followers/activity when the rally season has ended.

I always check for postings, but as site Administrator/Moderator I don't want to be the only one sending replies. I don't like seeing the 'Last Post' right-hand column full of my posts!

Keep up the good work guys and spread the word around that there is another Forum on-line, this is probably the quickest way of gaining those valuable new members.

Best regards,

with three sites and three forums for organ enthusiasts, you cannot expect everyone to drop everything and flock here. Most subjects are adequately covered on other sites and remember that there are still the "groups" on msn and yahoo for instance where messages and info is passed especially by our american friends. Hi Bob.

Yes, I appreciate that there are plenty of other resources on the web, that was the point I was making about how many potential new members there were 'out there'.

I think that it is just a case of trying to generate a 'following' and that it is entirely up to the members which Forum they follow.

Hi Everyone.
Well I am back after a short break on the High Seas.
It is a pity that we have not got more activity on the forum.
Maybe one reason is because Members are afraid to post in case they make a spelling mistake and someone then makes a post, drawing attention to it,as sometimes happens on other forums.
Not everyone holds a degree in English so I hope we on this forum will be a little tolerant to spelling mistakes.

Regards
George.

P.S.
I hope I have not made any in this post Laughing

Hi George, welcome back!

I agree about being more tolerant and would also like to add that we would welcome any input or questions from anyone who isn't an 'expert' on the organ scene, without them receiving any critical comments from someone who is. We don't want anyone to feel that they will look like a fool if they ask a question or make a statement!

I would certainly place myself in the non-expert category when it comes to knowing what-is-what, or who-is-who in the organ world.

As I have only been visiting vintage rallies (including Great Dorset) since the late 1990s (mainly thanks to George), I have discovered that there is a lot of information to be found!

So when I find myself having a chat with those experts, the conversation is usually on the lines of "you know such-abody with the so-and-so organ" I usually find myself nodding in agreement, without really knowing who or what they are talking about!

But I enjoy listening to anyone enthusing over such-abody's organ, because that is what keeps me interested and I eventually find myself discovering who-and-what as I go along.

That was the main reason I put the Organ Alley website and Forum on, so that I and hopefully everyone else could learn some more about the wonderful world of vintage organs, fairground and steam.

Maybe I will become one of those 'experts' eventually!

I do, however, expect some feedback about my spelling or typo's, because as Webmeister and Forum Administrator/Moderator I have to set an example!

Isn't 'educashun' great!
